ecosystems and human health. The detonation of nuclear weapons releases enormous amounts of energy,
producing devastating effects on the environment. The immediate impact includes the destruction of
vegetation, topsoil, and the alteration of landscapes due to shockwaves and heat generated during the
explosion.
